What is collagen and why do I need it?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body. It is one of the major building blocks of bones, skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Collagen is also found in many other body parts, including blood vessels, corneas, and teeth. You can think of collagen as the “glue” that holds all these things together. In fact, the word comes from the Greek word “kólla,” which means glue.

The most common form of collagen in your body is Type 1 collagen (approximately 28 types of collagen have been discovered). This type accounts for 90% of your body’s collagen and is made of densely packed fibers. It’s most common in and provides structure to skin, bone, teeth, tendon, ligaments, cartilage, vascular ligature, and organs. 

“So.. Why do I need to take your supplements?”, you ask.

As you age, your body produces less and lower quality collagen. This generally starts around the age of 25. One of the visible signs of this is in your skin, which becomes less firm and supple. Cartilage also weakens with age. Having a healthy level of collagen is necessary for maintaining a healthy body and your natural beauty.

What is marine or fish collagen?

Collagen for supplementation is generally extracted from mammals (most often bovine) or marine animals (most often fish). Marine (or fish) collagen comes from the skin, bones or scales of fish. It is considered one of the best sources of collagen supplementation as it consists of mostly Type 1 collagen, which is the most abundant form in the human body (significantly present in the skin, hair, nails and bones).

Where is SANA Amsterdam's collagen sourced?

All of SANA Amsterdam’s products contain a high amount of Norwegian hydrolyzed marine collagen (i.e. collagen peptides derived from fish), made from the skin and/or bones of deep water fish such as cods and pollocks. This marine collagen is environmentally friendly sourced and 100% derived from fish free of artificial additives to ensure purity and high quality.

What benefits will taking beyond or power collagen have on me and what does scientific research say on oral collagen supplementation?

Collagen is essential for the human body and is needed for almost all bodily functions – repairing intestinal lining, stabilization of blood sugar, bone strength, balancing cholesterol levels and wound healing. 

Scientific research (see our research page) indicates that there are several benefits – especially relating to the skin, bones and muscles – in taking oral collagen supplements. We recommend taking Beyond or Power Collagen products, which are developed with special and unique formulas that contain a high amount of Norwegian Hydrolyzed Marine Collagen.

Several studies have shown that oral collagen supplementation has had beneficial effects on the skin via improvement of skin health, reduction of skin wrinkles, increase of skin elasticity and/or increase of skin moisture levels. Some studies concluded that short and long-term use of oral collagen supplements may also be promising for wound healing and skin aging, as well as hair protecting properties in certain conditions. There are also indications that hydrolyzed collagen supplementation in combination with resistance training improves body composition and increases muscle strength.

I eat healthy. Isn't that enough?

A healthy, well-balanced diet is always recommended. However, as you age, your body becomes less efficient in processing and absorbing nutrients. Collagen from food cannot directly be used by our tissues. Collagen is a protein formed by a long chain of amino acids that enzymes in your body must first break down into shorter amino acid chains so it can be used by your body. As our collagen is concentrated hydrolyzed collagen (collagen peptides), it has gone through the enzymatic process of hydrolysis and is already in the form of shorter amino acid chains. This allows your body to quickly absorb and use the collagen. Also, our collagen supplements contain high dosages of collagen, which would otherwise be difficult to consume through a typical diet. Hence, collagen supplements are a great way to replenish and maintain healthy levels of collagen in your body.

When will I see the first results from taking your supplements?

As we are all different in our needs, the results will also be different. For example, some will see results after 8 weeks, while others in 12 weeks. We recommend a daily intake for at least 12 weeks for a difference to be notable, especially for differences in your skin texture and appearance. 

Based on our own experience, after 4 weeks of consumption, the lipid layer of the skin has doubled with yet no visible result as the effects from collagen supplementation work from inside out. After 12 weeks, wrinkle depth has reduced by 37%, skin texture has improved by 24%, red spots have decreased by 6% and brown spots have decreased by 20%.

Can SANA Amsterdam's supplements be taken continuously?

Since our own production of collagen reduces with age, the benefits of collagen supplementation can only be achieved by continuous consumption on a daily basis. Once consumption is stopped, your levels of collagen are likely to drop again and so will the associated health benefits.

There is no contra-indication for taking our food supplements continuously. On the contrary, our bodies require daily intake of nutrients and minerals which our modern-day diet doesn’t always naturally contain. 

Should I choose Beyond Collagen or Power Collagen?

How does the subscription work?

With our subscriptions, you will receive a new box of your ordered collagen supplement(s) on a regular basis at your home so you will never run out of your supply of collagen. You can choose between a 3 month, 6 month and 1 year subscription. The minimum duration period that we offer with our subscriptions is 3 months because it will take a minimum of 12 weeks to see improvements when using our collagen supplements.

All of our subscription products are continuous subscriptions with a required minimum duration. You will receive your subscription product(s) periodically and be billed over the same period. Generally, our subscription product(s) are billed on a monthly or quarterly basis, whereby we send you your monthly (or quarterly) supply of your subscription product(s).The subscription products we offer are accompanied with a discount. Do I get a discount with a subscription?

Yes! We want to reward our loyal customers. As a subscriber, you benefit from a constant discounted rate.

Should I buy a subscription or a single product?

To get the best results, you will need to continuously use our supplements. So the best way to go is to get a subscription.

Of course, you can buy single products to test and see which one of our collagen supplements you like best. Or, to give as a present to a loved one!

Can I cancel the subscription?

Yes, of course. After the required minimum duration period of 3, 6 or 12 months of your chosen subscription period, you can cancel your subscription at any time. There is a 1 month notice period, see ourTerms & Conditions. However, when you cancel your subscription, you also cannot benefit anymore from the discounted rate applicable to your product.

Orders & Payments

How can I place an order?

Place your product in your digital shopping cart by clicking on the ‘add to cart’ button. Then go to checkout, login with your account or fill out your information, and, proceed to payment.

What does it mean if an item is out of stock? What can I do when a product is not available?

If an item is out of stock, it means that we will most likely be making more! When a product is not (yet) available, you can subscribe for our newsletter and we’ll notify you once it’s back in stock.

How can I change/cancel my placed order?

Changes in orders or cancellations can only be made within 12 hours. If you do need us to change or cancel an order, reach out to us via the contact form or send an email to support@sana.amsterdam right away and be sure to include your order number in your request.

We process orders as quickly as possible, but we’ll do our best to catch it before it’s too late! Once an order has been sent, we are unable to cancel the order and it will need to be processed as a return. In that case, you can return your order within 14 days after receiving it, provided that your item(s) are in the same condition as that you received it, in the original packaging, sealed, unopened and unused. In case you want to order just a certain item or items from your order, but want to keep some of the other products, you can only return these products. Please make it clear when you reach out which items you wish to return.

How can I change my address?

Did you order something, but filled out the wrong address? And have not yet received a shipping confirmation? Then reach out to us via the contact form as quickly as possible and please include your order number in your message. We’ll check if we can still change the address of the shipment. If you’ve moved and want to change your address in your SANA Amsterdam account, you can do this in “my account” after you login. If you are having trouble with changing your address in your account, please reach out to us via the contact form and we’ll get back to you asap!

Can my shipping address differ from my invoice address?

Yes, this is possible by adding an address at checkout or in your account information.

Will an invoice be sent with my order?

We do not automatically include an invoice with your order. Do you want to receive an invoice? Please contact us via the contact form.

What’s the status of my order? How do I track my order?

As soon as the delivery company receives the order, you’ll receive an e-mail containing a Track & Trace code (if available) with which you can track your order. If you have any questions about the status of your order, you can reach out to our team via the contact form.

How much are shipping costs per order?

Shipping costs depend on your order and the delivery address. You will see the exact cost for shipping during checkout after your fill in the shipping address.

In which ways can I pay my order?

At SANA Amsterdam you can pay via a variety of payment methods, among which: iDeal, PayPal or credit card. Available payment methods may differ for one-time purchases and subscription purchases. At checkout, you will be able to see all available payment methods for your specific order.

How does my subscription order work?

All of our subscription products are continuous subscriptions with a required minimum duration period (for example 3, 6 or 12 months). You will receive your subscription product(s) periodically and be billed over the same period. Generally, our subscription product(s) are billed on a monthly basis, whereby we send you your monthly supply of your subscription product(s). 

The subscription products we offer are accompanied with a discount. After the minimum duration period, you still keep the discounted rate until cancellation. Cancellation is possible after the minimum duration period of your subscription, with a 1 month notice period.

Shipping, Delivery & Returns

What is the delivery time for my order?

We send our packages through a variety of delivery companies to get you your package as soon as possible! When an order is placed, we try to send your package the same day. If that is not possible anymore, we ship it the next (working) day. We deliver our packages everywhere inside the EEA / EU.

The average delivery time in the Netherlands is 1-2 working days, but may take longer depending on the circumstances. For orders elsewhere in the EEA / EU, delivery time may vary.

How can I track my order?

If available, you will receive a Track & Trace code to find more information about the delivery. Availability of a Track & Trace codedepends on the shipping company and the method of shipping.

Can I have my order delivered to a pick up point?

In certain countries it is possible to have an order delivered to a collection point. If available in your country, you can choose a pick-up point as a delivery method during checkout.

Do you ship internationally and what are the fees?

Yes! We ship worldwide. The shipping costs are calculated automatically after entering your shipping address. 

What happens to my order when I’m not home?

If you are not at home, the package is either delivered to a collection point nearby or to the neighbors, depending on the delivery company. You will receive a note either via e-mail or a physical card (in your mailbox) with further instructions. 

I have received a product that I did not order.

If you have received an item that you have not ordered, it is best to contact us via the contact form or via email at support@sana.amsterdam. Please include your order number in your message.

There’s a product missing from my order.

If you are missing an ordered item in your delivery, it is best to contact us via the contact form or via email at support@sana.amsterdam. Please include your order number in your message.

I have received a damages package.

My package is lost! What now?

Oh no! If your package has been lost in transit, reach out to our team via the contact form or via email at support@sana.amsterdam right away.

*After an order has been delivered to the correct shipping address, we cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen packages.

How do I return an article?

One-time purchases

For one-time purchase products, we have a 14-day return policy, which means you have 14 days after receiving your item to request a return. To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition as that you received it, in its original packaging, sealed, undamaged, unopened and unused. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.

Subscriptions

For subscription products, you have the right to withdraw from the agreement within 14 days after your purchase of the subscription, without stating any reasons for the withdrawal. You then only pay for the products already delivered and products already shipped during these 14 days, unless you indicate that you want to return these products. To be eligible to return any product from your subscription that you already have received or that has already been shipped to you prior to your withdrawal, the product must be in the same condition as that you received it, in its original packaging, sealed, undamaged, unopened and unused. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.

Return process

To start a return and/or withdrawal, you can contact us via the contact form or by sending an email to support@sana.amsterdam, stating your order number and that you wish to return a product and/or withdraw from a subscription. 

If your return and/or withdrawal is accepted, we’ll send you instructions on how and where to send your package with the items you are returning. Return shipping costs are the customer’s own responsibility. Items sent back to us without first requesting a return and/or withdrawal will not be accepted.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items.

How and when will I be reimbursed?

One-time purchase

If you cancel the agreement within 14 days after receiving your one-time purchase and your return has been accepted, you will receive all payments you have made up to that time, including shipping costs (with the exception of any additional costs resulting from your choice of a different method of delivery than the cheapest standard delivery offered by us), within 14 days after we have been informed of your decision to withdraw from the agreement. Return shipping costs are the customer’s own responsibility.

Subscriptions

If you withdraw from your subscription within 14 days after your purchase, and, any subscription product(s) received or already shipped to you have been accepted by SANA Amsterdam for return, you will be reimbursed the amount already paid for the first periodical payment for the subscription product, including shipping costs (with the exception of any additional costs resulting from your choice of a different method of delivery than the cheapest standard delivery offered by us). Return shipping costs are the customer’s own responsibility.

Duration and reimbursement method

We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the return was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically reimbursed as soon as possible. Please remember it can take some time for your bank, credit card company or other (financial) intermediary to process and post the refund too.

Money is refunded via the same payment method used to pay for the product.
